Overview

In the NFL Punters Challenge, it’s not about how much you bet — it’s how well you bet. Your edge is your return on every credit you stake. The better your edge, the higher you climb.

At the end of the season, the winner is the punter with the highest edge — the total amount returned from winning bets, minus the total amount staked. It’s that simple: whoever turns their credits into the greatest profit wins.

Competition Details

Start:Week 11 (Friday, 14th November at 11:15 AEST)
End:After the final game of Week 18
Duration:8 weeks (playoffs not included)
Prize Pool:$1,000

Core Mechanics

  • Each round you receive 20 credits to allocate across your selections
  • Stake between 1-5 credits on individual tips (singles or multis)
  • Winning selections earn points = credits staked × odds
  • Losing selections cost you the credits staked as negative points
  • The winner has the highest edge (total earned minus total lost)

Scoring Example

You stake 3 credits on a market with odds of 2.50:
Win: Earn 7.5 points (3 × 2.50), lose -3 points staked = +4.5 points
Lose: Earn 0 points, lose -3 points staked = -3 points
Higher stakes mean higher potential rewards, but also greater risk if you lose.

How to Play

1. Browse available markets

Each week, browse betting markets across all NFL games. Choose from various market types including:

  • Win markets (pick the winning team)
  • Spread markets (handicap betting)
  • Total points (over/under)
  • Player performance (passing yards, touchdowns, receptions, etc.)

2. Allocate your 20 credits

Add markets to your tip slip and assign 1-5 credits per selection. Make as many tips as you want, but remember you only have 20 credits total per round.

Strategy tip: Spread your credits across multiple tips to diversify risk, or concentrate on your most confident picks for higher potential returns.

Note: You don't need to use all 20 credits. It's best to be strategic and aim for net positive points each week and stay in profit, rather than forcing all credits into picks you're unsure about.

3. Build multis for higher odds (optional)

Combine multiple single tips into a multi bet to multiply odds together. All legs must win for the multi to succeed, but the potential payout is significantly higher.

4. Submit before kickoff

All tips must be submitted before their respective game starts. You can edit or delete tips up until kickoff, but once a game begins, those selections are locked in.

Scoring System

Your final score is your edge: all points earned from winning selections minus all credits lost from losing selections. The winner is whoever has the highest edge at the end of the season.

Single Bet Scoring

Example: Single Bet

You stake 4 credits on Chiefs -7.5 with odds of 1.91:
Win: Earn 7.64 points (4 × 1.91), lose -4 points staked = +3.64 points
Lose: Earn 0 points, lose -4 points staked = -4 points

Multi Bet Scoring

When you combine selections into a multi bet, the odds multiply together. All legs must win for the multi to be successful. If any leg loses, the entire multi loses.

Example: 3-Leg Multi

You stake 5 credits on a 3-leg multi with odds 1.90, 2.10, and 1.85:
Combined odds = 1.90 × 2.10 × 1.85 = 7.38
All legs win: Earn 36.9 points (5 × 7.38), lose -5 points staked = +31.9 points
Any leg loses: Earn 0 points, lose -5 points staked = -5 points

Voided Markets

If a market is voided (for example, if a player doesn't participate in the game), your credits are returned and the selection has no impact on your score.

Example

You staked 3 credits on a market that was voided. You get your 3 credits back and the selection doesn't count toward your edge.

Prizes

Compete for cash prizes throughout the season. The leaderboard ranks players by edge - your total points earned minus credits lost.

Season Prizes

1st Place:$500
2nd Place:$100

Weekly Prizes

1st Place:$50

The player with the highest edge for that round wins the weekly prize.

Important Notes

  • You can make as many selections as you want each week
  • Selections are locked once the game starts - no changes can be made
  • If a player doesn't play, the selection is typically voided
  • Results are usually updated within 12 hours of a match finishing
  • Weekly and season-long prizes may be awarded depending on the competition
